INTUITIVE SINGING

For me, discovering intuitive singing has been a significant part of my spiritual journey. It has always been underpinned by a faith in my true nature as consciousness itself: an intuitive knowing that everything I have ever heard — every rhythm, melody, harmony — exists within me. And so this is not really a process of learning how to sing, but of uncovering or liberating what is already there.

If you feel drawn to explore the possibility of this kind of free expression, it doesn’t matter whether you believe you can sing or not: the desire itself is showing you that something wants to emerge, and you don’t need to be free from fear before you start.

My own exploration is still evolving, and I’m continually learning the ways that it can be interwoven with other practices. Over the past year I’ve started working with Guillermo Rozenthuler, a London-based vocal artist and trainer with a focus on spontaneous song and vocal improvisation. I’ve also been exploring more form-based techniques for collaborative improvisation, having attended a workshop with Briony Greenhill last year.
